Black-necked Stilt

Himantopus mexicanus

Description:

A dynamic looking black 'n white bird with long pink legs shown in breeding colors that enjoys hanging out along shallow water flats and sand bars. Plays well with others, and usually arrives to the breeding grounds between Mar 'n May. Such a graceful delicate bird that i never tire of watching

Habitat:

Hangs out along fresh water shallows during the Summer months and nibbles on water critters 'n bugs

Notes:

These pix were taken at the Bowdoin (pronounced: Ba' doy'n) NWR a few miles outside of Malta, Montana. Where i just spent two wonderful days circling the 15 mile Auto Tour of this marchy lake and ponds area. A great experience ~ as you get very close to the birds without disturbing them. i and my birding partner had the place all to ourselves 'n the birds of course.
