Great tit - Mésange charbonnière

Parus major

Description:

A common visitor near houses in winter, the Great Tit has a striking glossy black head with white cheeks and a distinctive two-syllable song. With a smaller and broken black belly band this one is a female.

Habitat:

Remnant patch of mixed woods, semi-rural.

Notes:

First heard at my window. Spotted together with house sparrows, blue tits and nuthatches.
