Gopher Tortoise

Gopherus polyphemus

Description:

Saw him scooting down my side yard lickety split. Followed him until he found a hole under the fence. Acted like he was looking for food.

Habitat:

I already have another picture of one with it's burrow, much bigger than this one. Burrows are easy for them to build in our sandy soil They are protected.

Notes:

Gopher Turtles originated in North America 60 million years ago.
