A rare siting of a mother and cub striped hyena resting on top of their den. This is a nocturnal species
This photograph was taken in the southern Serengeti near lake Ndutu.
When we saw it in the distance everyone in my car was convinced it was a spotted hyena (very common) and wanted to keep driving. But the ears gave it away and as we got closer you could clearly see the stripes as well as the more slender and taller body. A beautiful animal!
