Hyssop Loosestrife

Lythrum hyssopifolia

Description:

Clusters of small, simple pink/purple flowers, each about 10mm wide, on angular, trailing stems with narrow, thick, dark green leaves. Never more than 10cm above the ground when trailing but might occasionally rise to 30cms?.

Habitat:

At the very edge of a man-made lake in a local nature reserve.

Notes:

Also called Lesser Loosestrife, Small Loosestrife.
Family: Lythraceae
It is native to Europe but found elsewhere including Australia and North America. In Australia this seems to be most common in Victoria but also found in other states including Tasmania.

Thanks Vinny. I've just noticed some five petals and some six. Lesser Loosestrife looks good to me as it's often lying down and very Victorian. Please let me know if you disagree.
