Loggerhead Shrike

Lanius ludovicianus

Description:

A small gray bird. black mask, whitish throat

Habitat:

short grass

Notes:

It was grabbing insects on the ground. At one point it had a large insect (too far away to identify) that it was biting and stabbing with its beak. I thought it could be a shrike, but I'm not sure. Too small to be a mockingbird.

The only one I could find that was similar was a loggerhead shrike, so I'll put that. If someone comes by with a better suggestion, then I'll change it.

I hope someone can figure it out. I am still looking though.

That's a strange bird. I lived in LA county all of my life and I have never seen anything like it. It could be an old world thrush?
