Bubo virginianus
fledgling Owlet
I found this owl while hiking a set of woods I have known has had owls for many years. Crows were attacking the nest of this young bird, and it decided it knew how to fly. Sadly it was not ready and came to rest for only a short time in a very small sapling that could not support its weight. It finally came to rest on the ground where I made a quick capture and did my best to ward off the crows. I stayed close to the area, but far enough away in hopes that it would climb up a tree. As darkness decended on the woods, the owl remained on the ground, but the crows that had tormented it did not return.

I am sure who is watching this spotting must fell in love with this amazing bird... memorable spotting..!!
Thanks Isabella, Sometimes I am blessed beyond blessed to be in the right place at the right time. This was the case that day.
I have no words for this ... WOW !!
Thanks for following me, hsbrumar
Thanks AshishNimkar. I know I am learning a lot by seeing and reading the information that others post of their spottings
Not just done... formed a lesson... at least for me... :)
If I can make people laugh, or make people stop and pause and think of wildlife that they might otherwise pass right over, I believe I have done well.
Welcome Willi...
Your comment and Owlets face make me lot LOL.... :D
Thank you AshishNimkar, a friend of mine suggested I put a funny caption to go along with this photo of my face book page. Something like, " But Mom, I saw some of the other kids doing this last night". The pose with him hanging upside down, is highly unusual. I have seen a good number of young owls before, this is the first time, I have seen one hanging like this.
Thanks Willie for sharing it.. Its unexpected and amazing pose of this lovely bird.
To all, I posted a photo of the bird after it was chased from its nest, it landed in this tree but because the crows were still attacking it, it lost its balance and ended up in this position. I chased off the crows, and the owl finally managed to make its way to the ground, unhurt. I have posted a few photos of if on another spotting of the bird taken a week later.
Thank you for keeping us updated, it is such a beautiful bird :) and glad to know it is doing well
For those who asked to see a photo showing more of this young great horned owl, I have posted one taken that same day. For those who are wondering how it is doing. The answer is just fine. I will be posting photos another spotting of this owl taken a week later then this spotting.
MaryEvans2 and AshishNimkar, I have now spotted him on 3 additional times. when time permits, I will post a few more captures of him, and you will be able to see his development ( I use the term he, rather then it, I am unsure of the actual sex of this bird)
Thanks Willie... take your own time...!!
Oh please let us know if you spot him again ;) happy spotting
Ashish, I will add a full shot of him, in a few days, I have been so busy with my job and helping watch my grand kids, I have not had time. I promise you, I will add full shot of him. I have one, I just have not had time to get it on this computer to load it to this sight.
Thank you Alice, I am going to grab a bite to eat, and my camera, and binoculars and head out to see what I can see today. One of my stops will be the woods where this bird calls home.
Lovely... close up...!!
Have you take its complete body.. please add here picture of all bird.
Thanks for the Wow, Satyen
MaryEvans2, Thanks for commenting, I am hoping to go hiking in the woods where this was found to see if he is doing well, and is now flying.
