These fish were lined up on their own. If I got close, they would skitter off into the stream. They would return after a bit and line up again.

I've worked in the fisheries field and done quite a bit of stream surveying. I've never seen this type of behavior before. The stream looks familiar but I'd like to talk with you about the location where you observed this.
