Tachybaptus ruficollis
Also known as a Dabchick.
They can be very difficult to photograph as they spend a lot of time under water, coming up unexpectedly for a quick breath before disappearing again to pop up somewhere else later. See pics 5 & 6!
This is my spotting # 12000!
Coastal marshes.

Thank you Kathleen and Hema.
In winter plumage all the small Grebes look similar but the Black-necked Grebe is often overlooked, although it has a red eye if you look closely. So if you see one which looks a bit different, tail lower in the water, look at the eye. I have one here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/140... and several others also.
12000th! amazing indeed! I am sure it was a great passage to discovery and learning!Congratulations!!
Amazing, Malcolm! Love the spotting too. I just spotted a Little Grebe 2 days ago on a marsh near Siem Reap, Cambodia. Non-breeding plumage though so not as striking as your bird. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you António, Daniele & Sergio.
