Golden Dung Fly

Scathophaga stercoraria

Description:

Medium sized brightly coloured fly (up to 1cm). The male is a bright yellow while the female is a duller yellow-green.

Habitat:

Found in fields and manure piles. Cow dung heaps are particularly favoured.

Notes:

They are a predatory fly hunting, mating, egg-laying all occur on the dung heaps.
