Coragyps atratus
This is an American black vulture photographed at Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge in Volusia county, Florida (04 April 2006). Black vultures are rather common throughout Florida (and elsewhere), particularly near and around roads. Roadkill, you know... It's what's for dinner. This particular individual was camped out in the Lake Woodruff refuge, well away from traffic. Nice to see this species in places other than roadways... [jansonjones http://dusttracks.com]
