Red-eared Slider

Trachemys scripta elegans

Description:

Newly hatched young are between 20 and 35mm (3/4 to 1 3/8 inches) in shell length. Hatching usually occurs in late summer or early autumn, but some turtles are known to overwinter in the egg and hatch the following spring.

Habitat:

Found several of these little turtles swimming in the thick aquatic vegetation at the edge of a very large pond. In general, Red-eared Sliders thrive in most freshwater habitats like rivers and lakes, plus man-made waters like reservoirs, canals and ponds.

Thanks Carol! Little aquatic turtles have the coolest colors and markings! They usually don't stay quite that spectacular though as they age.
