Tropical Kingbird

Tyrannus melancholicus

Description:

Lovely small to medium bird measuring about 5" from head to tail. It has a bright grey crown with dark gray stripe coming back from the bill and through the eyes. They are flycatchers by nature but are also omnivores. It will sit and wait for any kind of flying insect to come into range and jump to flight to catch it. This widespread bird is quite an aerialist.

Habitat:

Open grassland, pastures, mangrove estuaries, boreal forests and more.
