L 3.75" WS 4.5" WT 0.11 OZ (3.2 g) Small to tiny birds, with hovering flight, long-billed and short-tailed,slender, small-headed, and thin-necked. Males are distinguished by throat color.
Congregate at feeders or flowering plants, feeding primarily on nectar but also take many tiny insects, either picking them from vegetation or capturing them in flight.
Each summer the "Hummers" keep us entertained at the flowers and feeders.
