Large Yellow Underwing

Noctua pronuba

Description:

Medium sized brown moth with or without pattering. Can vary in color from reddish to dark brown. Beautiful orangish-yellow underwings with black along the bottom edge.

Habitat:

Suburban yard (well planted).

Notes:

Two different specimens found around the same time. I was mowing the lawn this morning and startled them out of the grass in two different places. I thought that they were butterflies at first because of the color but quickly was able to ID them once I got closer.

Thank you very much KarenL.

alicelongmartin, yes, you could say that. :)

AshishNimkar, thank you for the compliments. I've started to carry my little digital camera around in my back pocket whenever I'm outside now, just in case!
