Domestic Mallard

Anas platyrhynchos var. domesticus

Description:

A mallard size and shape duck with black and white checkered plumage with a hint of blue on some feathers. This is a wild duck but descended from domesticated stock. The appearance of domestic Mallards in the wild becomes even more variable. Unfortunately so many are breeding in the wild that you'll struggle to find pure wild-type Mallards in some areas.

Habitat:

One of the boat owners at the marina said this duck showed up a couple of weeks ago and scared away all the other ducks. Although I did see it trying to make friends with some other mallards(pic4).
