Variegated Fritillary cocoon

Euptoieta claudia

Description:

A little more than a half inch in length. Very bright and metallic in color. Pearly white in base with gold tips on the spikes running down the back side of the cocoon.

Habitat:

I have found them all over my yard but the usual place for hanging these cocoons is in more leafy areas, such as in my first photo, the webbing is used to aid in camouflage and protect the cocoon during development.
