Fungus Weevil

Toxonotus championi

Description:

This little beetle looks just like a dinosaur from the Permian Period (picture 2). It is related to the true weevils, with a head somewhat extended into a beak. However, the antennae are straight and not elbowed, although they do have a distinct 3-segmented club. The body is covered in bark-colored scales and hair tufts. The tibiae of the legs are banded and hairy in tufts which make them look segmented like the tarsi. Not all Anthribids are as hairy as this one. It is about 8 mm long and these are associated with fungi. Family Anthribidae.

Habitat:

Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, 2,200 meters.

I see three tufts - one yellow, two black. Matches completely with description - only size does not (3.5 - 5.5 mm).
That does not matter so much. Size variation of 100% or even more is frequent in dead wood beetles.
