Lynx rufus
The bobcat is brown with black spots. Its fur may be grayer in winter. It has large ears with slight tufts of hair at the tips. It has a striped ruff of fur on its cheeks and a short tail with a black tip. It gets its name from its short or bobbed tail. The bobcat is about two feet tall from its shoulders to its feet. It weigh between 20 and 30 pounds. The bobcat has excellent eyesight and hearing.
Sweetwater Wetlands
I had been watching a woodpecker in a tree and happened to turn around just in time to see the back of this cat vanishing into the brush. Fortunately I was near the intersection of another path that ran off at an angle, and darted onto it, got my camera ready, then held my breath. A few long seconds later, I was lucky enough to catch these shots as the bobcat stepped out of the brush and crossed the trail ahead of me.
