Twice Stabbed Lady Bugs

Description:

This is a black lady bug with two red dots (twice stabbed). It is pink when it first emerges. The underside is red. The pupating mass can look ominous, but these are very beneficial insects.

Habitat:

These were on the trunk of a small Eastern Redbud tree.

Notes:

There are three kinds of black lady bugs with two red dots. Sides and underbelly markings are important.
