Thank you for adding those 2 helpful reference links to the spotting. I read the one with info about this species. I didn't realize that the average size of these birds is 14.5 inches long. And both the male and the female take turns incubating the eggs. What an interesting, beautiful bird. Again, nice spotting and congratulations on your Spotting of the Day achievement!

But I'm sorry I'm not a true ornithologist, I just love everything around
me in nature and I love to photograph these wonderful things.
I can only say that I've spotted these birds in several African countries, it is indeed a fairly common species. The one I have photographed, I spotted in the Chobe National Park Botswana.
I have found a site where some reasonable explanation is given on the Lilac Breasted Roller and also a wiki page on the Chobe Reserve.
This I will gladly add to my spotting.
