Florida Green Watersnake

Nerodia floridana

Description:

This is a young Florida green watersnake, Nerodia floridana. Adults grow quite large and robust (over four feet SVL). Younger individuals are a bit more slender, as this one was. They are non-venomous watersnakes, but are often slaughtered by people out of naked fear. Florida greens like to bask in open, calm water, perched atop grassy reeds and the like. They are quick to flee into the water. I adore them! [jansonjones http://dusttracks.com]

Definitely not scary from where I sit! I find them to be beautiful, elegant organisms wonderfully adapted to scratching out a living in an oftentimes too harsh and difficult world!
