Bush Katydid (Nymph)

Scudderia sp.

Description:

He was quite colorful, showing hints of a greenish body with blue patterning. His antennae were white and black, of alternating stripes. Antennae were much longer than the whole body of the bug. Not including the antennae, the body of the bug was about 7 mm.

Notes:

Very small, strange bug that was crawling around on a Milkweed plant. Sorry for the poor quality of the close-ups...I tried, but this little guy was so small...

Hi there :) It looks like it's a katydid nymph. They have larger heads and longer antennae than grasshoppers do. Here's a link to a blog where a person posted a pic of an unidentified-by-species, but very similar, katydid. To identify this kid, you probably would have needed to either have a guide to young versions of local insects or collected it and raised it.

Nice job on the pics! I know how small it was!!!
