Habitat:

Growing in crevices on a sandstone outcrop along the edge of an Appalachian mountain ridge, exposed to the southeast. Canaan Mountain, Monongahela National Forest.

Notes:

This plant is also known as American Wintergreen. The berries of the plant have an aromatic, mouth-cleansing flavor.
