Badgers burrows

Meles meles

Description:

Some weeks ago we went on a walk to visit an area of Belgium where badgers are common residents. It was impossible to see one of them in the open but the expert showed us their burrows. I asked: are they sleeping? he replied: No way! they are very aware of our presence and listening to our every move! In the last century badgers were nearly brought to extintion by massive hunting. Fortunately now the population is recovering in some areas of Belgium and is being protected by naturalist groups like Natuurpunt.
