Dalea purpurea
Upright perennial generally with several stems from a woody base. Densely congested, purple flowers in conelike terminal spikes, that elongate as the flowers open.
Sunny area alongside a path near Lake Lewisville.
Native Americans used the plant in several ways. The leaves are edible and good for making tea and medicine and the roots are palatable when chewed. The stems were used as brooms.
