Struthio camelus
Easily recognizable large flightless bird from ratite family (Struthionidae); largest bird, over 2m tall with a massive body, very long muscular legs and long and slender neck. Male's plumage is black and white; while the legs and neck are pink (probably S. c. camelus subspecies), with a white ring at the base of neck. Female all grey.
Wild populations now confined in reserves; in open country, savannas and semi-desert plains. Here, in a drier savanna zone of Abidjatta-Shalla National Natural Reserve. This beautiful reserve consists of two lakes of the Rift Valley lakes system; and is situated on altitude of 1500m and 2000m. Beside the two lakes, the park is mainly savanna and open acacia woodland, with other thorny shrubs and euphorbias; very rich in birdlife (over 300 species recorded) but not so much in other wildlife.

Thank you Daniele for your kind words; I'm glad you like them. Actually, I went digital in 2007, everything before was done using film-roll cameras - I remember travelling with 100 rolls every time I would move on mission. Later on, I scanned all my 'chosen' photos; or those that I kept in albums and such (not slides, paper prints)...
I love your older images Zlatan, there is a painting-like quality to them. Are these scanned from slides or already digital? Great notes as always, from parts of the world few of us have visited.
