cecropia

Description:

Beautiful. Wings looked like a silk tapestry. An eye on the pointy part of the wing. Legs orangey red and fuzzy. Six legs.

Habitat:

Hanging on the front of my house. A mating occured. There were three of them.

Notes:

I don't actually know what arthropods are. I just selected that picture because it looked like an insect.

Thanks, now I know it is a Hyalophora cecropia!
The mating was a long process. Two days, I think.

Amazing first spotting barb! Welcome to Project Noah. I'm not far from where this photo was taken. I just saw my first Cecropia moth last week. Cecropia moth is the common name for this, it would be great if you could add the scientific name - Hyalophora cecropia, to the spotting so it won't appear as an unknown spotting. Hopefully some more giant moths will be around your house.
