Ash Meadows Amargosa Pupfish

Habitat:

Crystal Spring and Point of Rocks springs at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.

Notes:

Males are larger and more colorful than the females. Neither is much more than an inch in length. Pupfish get their name from their aggressive territorial defense which their discoverers thought looked like the frolicking of puppies.
