Phidippus audax
This is a common jumping spider here where I live. I do see these guys often. This large female is the largest jumping spider I have ever seen in my life. She was nearly 1 inch in size, which is huge for a jumper (see second picture with my hand)!
Suburban backyard garden.
This spider is a "typical audax". This means that she is in the most common coloration and pattern of this species. Notice her amazing, metallic green mandibles! She was discovered hiding in some garden fabric as we were getting ready to plant the veggies.

lovely, Forest!!
Great Spotting! I love these guys too.
Yeah. She was totally looking at the camera in that shot. The first photo makes her look a bit sinister but it is the reflection of the light on her eyes. She really was quite docile. I think jumping spiders are probably the cutest spiders in existence!
I'm an arachnophobic, but that fourth picture actually makes her look kinda cute, she's looking a the camera! Lol
Thanks all! She was very cooperative.
I especially like the fourth photo - and the one with your hand showing the size is a nice addition!
Very cool. He looks strangely similar to a manager I had when I worked at a fast food restaurant 25 years ago - but he was a bit taller. :) I love the green mandibles. Nice photos!
nice !
