Red-tailed Hawk

Buteo jamaicensis

Description:

Wild Red-tailed Hawk on swingset in playground; the chains are holding the swings, not the bird!

Habitat:

Urban park.

Notes:

This is the "resident redtail" of the park; I often see it on flagpoles, in trees, and hunting pigeons. One evening it picked the swingset for a perch and I was able to get very close to it.

Thank you both! I never walk through the park without looking for the redtail, it's an honor to be so close to a wild raptor.
