Coccinella septempunctata
Its elytra are of a red colour, but punctuated with three black spots each, with one further spot being spread over the junction of the two, making a total of seven spots, from which the species derives both its common and scientific names.

I was appreciating the fact that you found a 7 spotted!! did not mean to correct you.
If i am in doubt, i leave it in the unknown box and Misako who is a ladybug expert and lover always identifies it.
@Emma - did I misidentify? Sorry I don't have a clear shot of the full back. The Transverse species is more common in Md, but the markings don't seem to match up - and the 9-spotted has more white in the head, so I ruled that out as well.
I am open to being corrected
