Red-eared Slider

Trachemys scripta elegans

Description:

A medium-sized aquatic turtle with a patch of red on each side of head. Carapace is olive-brown with numerous black and yellow lines. Plastron is yellow with each scute normally having a large black blotch.

Habitat:

Spotted basking in the morning sun on an offshoot canal-like stream of the Missouri River. Typically they can be found in most aquatic habitats like rivers, ponds, oxbow lakes and reservoirs.
