White-lipped garden snail

Cepaea hortensis

Description:

Headed for my hostas. My house is near Lake Simcoe, surrounded by a unkempt field and variable forest. Mostly a good moisture in the area as there are several creeks and ponds nearby. This guy was traveling across my front cement porch, headed for my front garden which is primarily a mixture of hostas, heuchera, tiger lilies, irises and a few ground covers.

It is great all around my house, in the south end of Barrie, heart of subdivision lands and we have 5 deer raiding our garden. (as well as the snails).

Thanks, Becca. You can provide the information in just one of the sections; for example, your description of the environment could go in the habitat section. Seems like your area would be a great habitat for many species!

I added some environment details... And in all likelihood my hostas may have been only one of a few things on the menu that day! ;)

Nice spotting, Becca. Perhaps you could tell us something about this snail besides that it likes your hostas? :)
