River Cooter

Pseudemys concinna concinna

Description:

Large turtle with black and yellow face with a red and black carapace. There were a bunch of these suckers swimming in a huge lake in Outer Banks, N.C. We were feeding them bread, although some big fish would usually swim up and steal the food :) I would love clarification as to the species. River Cooter was my best guess. Could be painted turtle or another sp.? Any turtle experts around here?

Nope, you're good then. Locations are important! You're correct with P. concinna :)
