Small leaf beetle

Paropsis minor

Description:

A delightfully colorful leaf beetle with red and brown transverse bands.

Habitat:

Beside a creek, on Kunzea flowers.

Notes:

A few leaf beetles feed on other plants than eucalyptus. Paropsisterna semifumata feeds on Callistemon but is only found over creeks where it is presumably cooler or humid. This species would seem to be similar being found over a creek in Licola but feeding on tea tree flowers. A similar beetle feeding on tea tree is Paropsisterna obliterata http://www.bowerbird.org.au/observations... but this one is quite widespread.
