Common Five-lined Skink

Plestiodon fasciatus (formerly Eumeces fasciatus)

Description:

A Common Five-lined Skink spotted on a tree stump located along "Heron Trail" at Huntley Meadows Park. I have dubbed this tree stump "Skink stump," because it seems to be a hotspot where skinks like to hang out. Related Resource: "Broad-headed Skink" http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/114...

Habitat:

Huntley Meadows Park, a 1,425 acre wetland area in Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Related Resource: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/huntl...

This individual had an especially bright blue tail. Thanks for the kind words regarding my documentation -- I wish every spotter would document each spotting as thoroughly. 'Nuff said! BTW, since you're a herpetologist I'm curious to know your opinion regarding the ID of the following spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/834...

Love those blue tails! Thanks for including the links to wikipedia, the VA herp society, and the park site. That's great documentation for a spotting!
