Egyptian Dabb Lizard

Uromastyx aegyptia

Description:

Fairly large lizard, can reach 66 cm in length. Completely vegetarian. Can endure droughts. Feeds often on the Acacia trees.

Habitat:

Open stony habitats

Notes:

(Image taken by friend and desert safari guide ~ uploaded with permission.) Faeces of the Dabb Lizard have been found mixed with plastic bag shreds, which can block digestion and kill these animals. The bags are entangled on the plants that the lizard eats, flying through the desert the bags get caught on the hooks and spines of the desert plants. Also, Dabb Lizards are hunted and collected in Sinai. Bedouin hunters eat the meat and pet traders collect them.
