Varied Thrush

Ixoreus naevius

Description:

A Thrush that is about the same size as the American Robin yet heavier. This male has dark head, breast band, back and top of tail. Orange on throat, chest, eyebrow and barring wings. I've heard four distictive calls, one being almost like a purring.

Habitat:

Found a large number over a half mile in a forested canyon. These prefer the slopes of the canyon.

Notes:

Winter migrant
