Lycid beetle

Porrostoma spp.

Description:

A larger Lycid beetle wider near the rear. Wing covers orange with an underlying black tint. Prothorax also orange but including a dark patch in the centre. Anout 25mm long.

Habitat:

On cassinia leaves in a local national park. Lysterfield.

Notes:

This one appears to be Metriorrhynchus dilatipes recorded with the Victoria Museum but the name has obviously changed. Porrostoma (the genus which absorbed Metriorrhynchus) does not seem to include a species 'dilatipes'.

Thanks Neil. We've just been reviewing our lycid spottings and photos after some expert advice and realise many aren't even lycids !! Those mimics are driving us crazy but it's interesting.

Excellent spotting, Mark. Great photos too. Confusing when they start changing names. Why, I wonder?
