Giant Red Bug

Macrocheraia grandis

Description:

This one was exceptionally large (and long) among other usual red bugs (firebugs?). It didn't move much. Length: 40 - 50mm.

Habitat:

Teak forest with lots of undergrowths. Hot tropical forest.

Notes:

While trying to photograph a Psyche by the road side near Jaldapra (Wildlife Sanctuary) where we'd stopped for tea, just then I saw some red bugs (firebugs?). Looking for some 'photogenic' red bug groups my eyes caught this giant. It was quite cooperative while I was clicking its photos. I presume this is their queen mother!
