Cord grass

Spartina patens

Description:

Thin cord grass. The photo shows the dead as well as live cord grass. I assume the dead cord grass is from last season.

Habitat:

Salt marsh. One of the three species in the Spartina Genus(s) in Nova Scotia salt marsh ecosystem. The Spartina patens can handle moderate salinity although not to the level of the Spartina Alternaflora which is inundated twice daily with salt water.

Notes:

Not currently flowering when the photo was taken
