Tuftwing moth

Pterothysanus sp.

Description:

about 3", black and white, edged with red spots

Habitat:

rainforest

Notes:

I spotted this moth on the ground near the washrooms in the campsite in Nam Nao national park. I had just arrived at the park and had not yet even set up my tent yet when I spotted this. I was just walking around to see what was there and spotted this and an Erebus moth and some orchids. I knew I was going to like the park a lot!

I did a search of over 280 moths of a traveler like yourself and he didn't find your awesome moth. Just fantastic. I thought maybe a type of tiger or leopard moth. (Many "tiger" moths look like this)
