Pied avocet chicks

Recurvirostra avosetta

Description:

Chick of the pied avocet. Small and dumpy-looking, with white and grey markings, short dark legs, and a small black bill, which already shows signs of upward curvature.

Habitat:

Spotted on salt flats.

Notes:

Spotted in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. I've never seen avocet babies before - just a shame I couldn't get a closer shot!

After a bit of further research, I reckon these are approximately a week old, if even that. I made a continued check on them over a period of 6 weeks - here's the next spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/126....
