Eurasian Coot

Fulica atra

Description:

These lovely looking birds are "recognised by its snowy white bill and forehead shield. The remainder of the bird is dark sooty grey, except for its bright red eye." (Birdlife Australia: http://birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/Eura... )

Habitat:

Hanging about with the Purple Swamphens (Porphyrio melanotus) at the waste water wetlands.

Notes:

This is the first, and thus far only, time I have seen these birds! It was very exciting even though I had no idea what they were at the time.
