Description:

A large black corvid with mane like ruff of feathers (it was windy so they may have been just blowing), a heavy bill. Larger than a crow.

Habitat:

high desert

Notes:

I was hoping these were chihuahuan ravens, but those only occur (in the US) in southern Arizona, far west Texas, and sometimes Oklahoma, not California
