Description:

Northwestern Fence Lizard Sceloporus occidentalis occidentalis Old image. Sometimes fence lizards are very dark before they have warmed up in the sun. They can look like they're completely black at a distance.

Habitat:

Deserts to mountains; sandy or rocky areas with low vegitation or scattered trees.

Notes:

Trip to Lassen National Park.

Oh I wondered, but the reference book I had only had the Eastern Fence Lizard and it did not show up on the map of where it lived. Thanks!

A big clue that this is a fence lizard and not a side-blotched lizard are the enlarged scales on the back. You also aren't in range for side-blotched lizards :)
