In these mosses you can appreciate the capsules, hollow structures that manufacture spores. they have a cover that eventually opens, releasing the spores. The capsules are supported by a stalk, long slender axis that allows them to absorb nutrients. The green part of the stems contain the leaf: part of the moss especially adapted to capture light, perform photosynthesis and absorb water. Mosses anchor to the substrate through rhizoids: rootlike filaments that absorb water and mineral salts.
