Description:

Sticky orange cap, white attached gills, and a velvety black stem. White spore print.

Habitat:

Growing on deciduous wood in riparian forest.

Notes:

Cultivated specimens of this prized edible look nothing like wild ones. They are grown in the dark which results in all white caps and stems that are very long and slender. Also known as enokitake, velvet foot, or winter mushrooms.
