Giant Moth

Description:

Very large moth, 4 cm long. The first 3 pictures are of the moth observed on 21 May 18, while the 4th picture is of a moth found in the same place on 29 May 18. They are very similar but have some differences in pattern and coloration. Both 4 cm long. They feign death when molested. The second moth observed is darker with hairier legs. I think they must be of the same species. Family Cossidae?

Habitat:

Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico 2,200 meters.
